Send feedback to buildIt.social

The buildIt.social Feedback app is how you tell the buildIt.social team what’s wrong or missing. It posts in an org-wide channel, #buildit-feedback. Each report is a message there, so your colleagues see it and can +1 it, and the team’s updates come back in the report’s thread.

The Feedback app is provided by buildIt.social. It has the APP badge like any app, and its messages appear in your language.

Report a bug or request a feature#

You can start a report in three ways:

  • At the top of #buildit-feedback, select Report a bug or Request a feature. On a phone, the bar folds to one line of icons after you first use it.
  • Mention the app (@buildIt.social Feedback) in the channel. The app asks in your message’s thread, Send this to the buildIt.social team?, with Bug, Feature request and Not now. Picking one opens the form with your message already in it. Only you can answer; others see “Only Ana can send this”. The question closes after 7 days.
  • In Settings → About, select Send feedback.

Fill in the form#

  • What went wrong? (or What would you like? for a feature): a title of 3 to 120 characters.
  • What happened, and what did you expect? (or What would it help you do?): the description, up to 4,000 characters.
  • Steps to make it happen, for bugs: one step per line.
  • How bad: Blocker (“I can’t work”), Annoying (“I can work around it”) or Minor (“A small thing”). For a feature, How important: Must have, Would help or Nice to have.
  • Attachments: up to 5 screenshots or files, 25 MB each and 50 MB together, from Photos, Camera or Files. You can also drop or paste files into the form. Videos can’t be attached.
  • Sent with: the app version and your device’s system, filled in for you.

Select Send. On a computer, Ctrl+Enter (Windows) or Cmd+Enter (Mac) sends too. You see Sent. Your report is in #buildit-feedback. Offline, the report waits and is sent when you’re back online; the bar shows 1 report waiting to send. If a report can’t be sent, the bar shows Not sent: and its title, with Edit and Discard.

The form opens as a bottom sheet on phones and a dialog on computers.

What the team receives#

Your name, your organization’s name, what you wrote, the attachments and the Sent with line. Never your email address. Don’t include passwords or private messages in a report.

+1 a colleague’s report#

If a report in the channel affects you too, select +1 · Me too on its card. The card shows how many people said me too, such as +1 · 3, and the team sees the count.

  • Your own report already counts as your +1.
  • A +1 can’t be taken back, and it needs a connection.

Follow the updates#

The team’s updates appear in the report’s thread, and the card’s footer shows the latest status:

  • Sent to the buildIt.social team.
  • Accepted. The team has looked at this and will work on it.
  • In progress.
  • Done. We’ll say which release has it.
  • Fixed in a release, with “Update the app to get it.”
  • Duplicate of another report that covers the same thing, with See the earlier report when it’s in your channel.
  • Won’t do. The team decided not to work on this.
  • Closed by the buildIt.social team. or Reopened.

The team may ask you something in the thread, as Question from Kelly (buildIt.social team):. If you made the report, your replies in its thread go to the team (“Your replies here are sent to the buildIt.social team.”). Your colleagues can reply too, but only your replies are sent.

Who can send feedback#

Every member who isn’t a guest. Guests can read the reports but can’t send them or +1. You can send up to 5 reports in 24 hours, and your organization up to 25; if you reach a limit, the form says when you can send again.

Nobody can leave an org-wide channel, but you can mute #buildit-feedback like any channel.

Admins: Org owners and admins can turn Feedback off for the organization in Settings → Integrations → Apps, under Provided by buildIt.social. The channel is archived and nothing more is sent; you can turn it on again. See Manage an app.
