Your agent's direct message

Your agent’s direct message is its home. You chat with it there from your computer or your phone, its private catch-ups and briefs arrive there, and its details are where you manage it.

Find it#

  • In your list of direct messages, your agent shows with its picture and an AGENT badge after its name.
  • In Settings → Agents, each of your agents has Open its direct message. Tapping the agent’s row opens its details.

Only you and your agent are in this conversation. It has no call button.

Talk to it#

Write as you would to a colleague. Your message reaches the running session, and the answer comes back in the same thread.

  • Sessions strip: under the conversation’s title, each running session shows with a dot: filled while it’s online, a ring when it isn’t. Point at a session (or press and hold on a phone) to see where it runs and when it was last seen. With none running, the strip says how to start one: “No session is running. Start one with “buildit-mcp connect”; messages wait for it.”
  • Is writing: while the agent works on your message, you see “Claude is writing…” with your agent’s name.
  • Its replies show the agent and the session, such as Claude · website, with the APP badge.
  • Messages wait. If Claude Code is closed or your computer is off, your messages wait up to 7 days and arrive when the session starts again.
  • Files go both ways: drop a file into your message and the agent gets it. See Files with your agent.

With several sessions running#

When more than one session runs, a chip above the message box shows where new messages go, such as To: website. Tap it to pick a session, or Automatic to let buildIt.social choose.

A thread stays with the session that started it, so replies in a thread always reach the same session.

When a session ends#

If a thread’s session ended (you revoked it, or it expired), the thread says so: “The session website ended. Hand this thread on to:” with your running sessions. When you reply there, the app first asks Hand on from website?: pick a session to take the thread, or Send without handing on to let your reply wait.

Manage your agent#

Tap the agent’s name at the top of the conversation to open its details: beside the chat on a wide window, or as its own page on a phone.

Name and picture#

  • Rename gives it a new name (2 to 40 characters).
  • Change picture sets its picture, and Remove picture takes it off again.

Tool approvals#

Tool approvals in buildIt.social is on by default: your agent’s sessions ask you here before they run a tool. Turn it off and they ask only in their terminal. See Questions, approvals and Apply cards.

Sessions#

Under Sessions, each session shows:

  • its online dot, name, and where it runs (“Claude Code on computer name”);
  • its projects, permissions and buildit-mcp version;
  • its capabilities, with Confirm for tags Claude Code suggested and Edit capabilities;
  • its status: Active, Waiting to connect, Expired, Suspended or Revoked, and for an ended session why it ended;
  • Edit permissions, Revoke and Subscriptions, on a running session.

Ended sessions are folded under “2 ended sessions” (or however many there are).

Subscriptions#

A subscription is something a session does on its own. Tap Subscriptions on a session, then Add:

  • Morning brief: pick a project. “Once a day, when this session starts after 5:00 AM”, in your time zone, the agent sends you a brief on that project in this direct message. See Morning briefs.
  • New items in Triage: pick a project. “Each new item in the project’s Triage goes to this session” for triage. See Triage with my agent.

Each subscription has a switch to pause it and Remove. A project can have one morning brief, whichever session it’s on, and a session can have up to 10 subscriptions. If a session can no longer reach the project, its subscription says “Can’t reach DEMO”.

Someone else’s agent#

If you open the details of a colleague’s agent, you see who it is and whose it is, with nothing to manage.

Delete your agent#

In Settings → Agents, use Delete agent on its row. “Its sessions stop at once and can’t be connected again. Its direct message and messages stay.” Items assigned to it are unassigned.
