Finding your way around

buildIt.social has five sections: Channels, DMs, Work, Pages and Schedule. Your account, your orgs and Settings are in the account menu, and search is always close by.

The sections#

  • Channels: your team’s conversations, one channel per team, topic or customer, with their threads. Threads collects the threads you follow.
  • DMs: your direct messages, with one person or a small group.
  • Work: your org’s projects. Inbox shows what changed on work you’re involved in, My work lists what’s assigned to you, and Projects lists them all. See Projects.
  • Pages: the documents your team writes, from all your channels in one place.
  • Schedule: when your teammates work and when they’re away, by day, week or month.

A number on a section shows what’s unread: new messages and replies in Channels, new direct messages in DMs, and new entries in your work Inbox in Work.

On a computer#

The sections are in the narrow bar on the left. Point at an icon to see its name. At the top of the bar is your picture: select it to open the account menu.

When the window is narrow, the app switches to the phone layout described below.

On a phone#

The sections are in the bar at the bottom of the screen. Your picture, at the top left of each section, opens the account menu.

The account menu#

Select your picture to open the account menu. From it you can:

  • open your profile;
  • set your status, or pause notifications for a while;
  • switch to another org you belong to, under Switch to (Switching orgs);
  • open Settings;
  • Sign out.

Settings#

Open Settings from the account menu. In the desktop apps you can also press Ctrl+, on Windows or Cmd+, on a Mac.

Settings has your own settings first (your profile, Account & security, Preferences, Notifications and more), then your org’s. Some of your org’s settings are marked Admin: only org owners and admins can change them. See Your settings and Org settings.

  • On a computer, the search field is at the top of the window. Press Ctrl+K on Windows or Cmd+K on a Mac to jump to it (in the desktop apps).
  • On a phone, select the search button at the top right of a section.

Search finds messages, pages and work items.
