Work notifications
Work notifications tell you when something on your items needs you. Each one can reach you in two places: the Inbox in the Work section, on every device, and a notification on your phone, computer or browser. Both are on by default.
What notifies you#
| You get notified when | Who gets it |
|---|---|
| Assigned to you | The new assignee |
| Mentions of you | People mentioned in an item’s description or thread who can see the item |
| Replies on items you watch | The item’s watchers, except the person who replied |
| Status, assignee and due date changes | The item’s reporter and watchers, except the person who made the change |
| Due soon and overdue | The assignee, in the morning summary |
| Sprint ends tomorrow | Project admins and everyone with open items in the sprint, in the morning summary |
| Someone left with open items | Project admins, when a member leaves the channel with open items |
A few more rules:
- Only changes people make notify. Imported items and the app’s own clean-up send nothing.
- Several changes to the same item by the same person within a minute come as one notification. The Inbox still lists each one.
- Naming someone in a project member field doesn’t notify them.
To see what makes you a watcher, see Watching.
Choose what notifies you#
Open Settings → Notifications and find Work notifications. Each kind of event has two switches: Notifications on your devices and Work inbox. Turn off either one, or both. These settings need a connection.
Hear less from one project#
- Open the project’s channel.
- Open the channel’s menu (Channel options) and choose Work notifications.
- Pick a level:
- All activity: changes and replies on items you watch, assignments and mentions (the default).
- Only mine: only assignments and mentions.
- None: nothing from this project.
Your Work notifications settings still apply on top of this. The channel’s chat notifications don’t change.
The morning summary#
On working days, at about 8:00 in your time zone, you get one notification, Your work today, such as “3 items due today, 1 overdue”. It covers:
- your open items due today or tomorrow, and those overdue;
- active sprints ending tomorrow, if you’re a project admin or have open items in them.
Each item also gets its own Due soon, Overdue or Sprint ends tomorrow entry in the Inbox. An overdue item is listed once, not again every morning. Tap the notification to open the Inbox.
Your working days and time zone come from your schedule. Without one, the summary uses the project’s time zone and comes Monday to Friday. When nothing is due, there’s no summary. See Schedule.
When someone leaves a channel#
When a member leaves a project’s channel, their open items there are unassigned and they stop watching its items. The project admins get one Left the channel entry in the Inbox, listing the open items that need a new assignee, with Show unassigned items to find them.
While you’re on the item#
If you have an item open in a focused window, its new Inbox entries are marked read as they arrive, so what you’re already looking at doesn’t pile up as unread. See The Work hub.
