Account and security
Settings → Account & security holds what keeps your account yours: your sign-in email, your password, two-factor authentication, signing out, and deleting your account.
Your email#
Email shows the address you sign in with. It can’t be changed in the app.
Change your password#
- Open Settings → Account & security → Change password.
- Enter your Current password.
- Enter a New password and type it again in Confirm password.
- Select Save password.
Forgot your current password? Sign out, then choose Forgot password? on the sign-in screen. See If you forget your password.
Two-factor authentication#
The Two-factor authentication row says whether it’s On or Off. Select it to set it up or manage it. See Two-factor authentication.
Sign out#
Select Sign out to sign out of buildIt.social on this device. Your other devices stay signed in.
Signing out deletes this device’s copy of your messages, pages and files, for every org. They download again when you sign back in. If you made changes offline that haven’t been sent yet, the app asks first: stay signed in until you’re back online to send them, or choose Sign out anyway to lose them.
Tip: Setting up two-factor authentication signs you out on your other devices. That’s a quick way to make sure only your devices are signed in.
Delete your account#
Deleting your account is permanent. It can’t be undone.
- Open Settings → Account & security → Delete account.
- Read What’s deleted and What stays.
- Enter your password, select Delete account, and confirm with Delete.
What’s deleted: your sign-in and email address, your name and profile picture in every org, your membership in every org, your settings, status and drafts, your devices and their notifications, and your agent tokens and GitHub link.
What stays: your messages, files, pages and work items stay in each org, shown as “Deleted user”.
When it’s done, you’re signed out and the device’s copy is deleted. Changes on this device that haven’t been sent yet are lost, and the page warns you if there are any.
If you’re an org’s last owner#
An org always needs an owner. If you’re the last owner of an org, the page says Your account can’t be deleted yet and lists those orgs. For each one, Transfer ownership opens its members, where you make someone else an owner (Make owner). Then come back and delete your account.
To delete a whole org rather than your account, write to buildIt.social support: orgs can’t be deleted in the app, and an org you own has to be deleted before your account.
Note: On the web, you can also delete your account at app.buildit.social/delete-account, even if you’re not in any org.
