Preferences
Settings → Preferences is how the app looks and behaves for you. Some choices follow you to all your devices; others apply only on the device you set them on, as each one says below.
Language#
Language sets the language of the whole app: English, Español (Latinoamérica), Français (Canada), Српски (ћирилица) or Srpski (latinica). Each language is listed in its own language, so you can find yours even if the app is in another.
Device language follows your phone’s or computer’s language, if it’s one of these, and English otherwise.
Your choice is saved with your account, so your other devices use it too. Emails and notifications from buildIt.social come in the language the app runs in.
Theme#
Theme is System, Light or Dark. System follows your device’s light or dark mode. It applies on this device only.
The app’s colour comes from your org: org owners and admins pick it in Overview. Light or dark is always your choice.
Message layout#
Message layout sets how conversations look on this device:
- Bubbles: your messages on one side in your org’s colour, others’ on the other side with their picture and name.
- List: every message, yours too, under the sender’s picture and name.
Link previews#
Show link previews shows cards with a page’s title and picture under links in messages. Turning it off hides them only for you: others still see them.
Trusted link domains: when a link’s text doesn’t show where it goes, the app asks You’re leaving buildIt.social the first time you open a link to that site. Tick Trust links to the site there, and its links open without asking on this device. Clear makes every link ask again.
Autoplay GIFs#
Where GIFs are available, Autoplay GIFs sets how they play, only for you:
- Automatic: they play, except when your device asks for reduced motion, over Remote Desktop, or without graphics acceleration.
- Always
- Tap to play
Only GIFs on screen play, and only while the app is in front.
Open at sign-in#
In the desktop apps, Open at sign-in starts buildIt.social in the tray when you sign in to Windows, or in the menu bar when you log in to your Mac. It keeps running there, so messages and calls reach you.
Channel and DM order#
Channel and DM order sorts your Channels and Direct messages lists: A–Z or Recent activity. Channels start A–Z and DMs by recent activity. Pinned conversations stay on top, in your order. It’s the same on all your devices.
You can also sort each list from the button in its header. See Sort and pin your channels.
Keyboard shortcuts#
On a computer, Preferences ends with the list of keyboard shortcuts. See Keyboard shortcuts.
