Billing

For org owners and admins

Settings → Billing shows what your org pays and lets you manage it. It’s for org owners and admins, in the desktop and web apps only: the iPhone and Android apps have no Billing page.

You pay for active users: a member who used the org at least once in the period. Members who don’t use it that period cost nothing. Each month is billed at its end, on that month’s active users. Prices are before tax.

What the page shows#

  • Plan: your plan and its price per active user per month.
  • Status: for example a free trial and when it ends, Active with the next invoice date, or a payment problem and what to do by when.
  • Active users this period: how many people have used the org since the period began, with members and guests counted separately. Guests are free up to an allowance; active guests beyond it are billed as active users.
  • Estimated bill: the bill so far this period, before tax.
  • Free seats and months: any free seats or months buildIt.social has granted your org.
  • Invoices: each invoice with its status. View invoice opens it.

Update payment details#

Manage payment and billing details opens Stripe, where you change the card, the billing email and address and the tax ID, and see every invoice.

If a payment fails#

Owners and admins see a banner at once, with the date to update the payment details by, and Open Billing. Others see one a week later, telling them to contact the org’s admin. Until that date everything keeps working. If it isn’t paid by then, the org becomes read only: people can still read, search and download, but not post or change anything. Paying what’s due, or updating the payment details, restores it.

Cancel#

Cancel subscription opens Stripe’s billing portal, where you cancel. The subscription ends at the end of the current period, and that period’s active users are billed then. The org then becomes read only, and it’s deleted 90 days after the subscription ends. A banner tells everyone the date.

Note: On phones, a banner tells everyone when the org’s account needs attention and to contact the org’s admin. Owners and admins manage billing from the desktop or web app.
