Offline data
For org owners and admins
Members’ devices keep recent messages so the app opens quickly and works offline. Settings → Offline data sets the most any member’s device may keep for your org. Each member can keep less in their own Storage on this device.
Set the limit#
Open Settings → Offline data and select Offline copies on devices. Choose:
- No limit (the default): each device keeps what its owner chooses, up to a year.
- At most 90 days, 30 days, 7 days or 1 day.
- None: no copy on devices: nothing is stored on devices. The app keeps messages in memory only while it’s open, as the web app does.
Members’ devices apply a new limit straight away, or as soon as they’re next online. Members see it in their storage settings, under Limit set by your organization.
The limit covers what the desktop and phone apps keep. The web app never keeps a copy after its tab closes.
Note: The app enforces this limit, not the server: a modified app could keep more.
On a phone, this page says to use the desktop or web app to change it.
For what devices keep and how the copy is protected, see Your device’s copy.
