Custom emoji
Your org can have its own emoji, like your logo or an inside joke. Everyone in the org can react with them and use them in messages. They’re in Settings → Emoji, and in the emoji picker’s Custom tab. See Emoji, custom emoji and GIFs.
Add an emoji#
- Open Settings → Emoji and select Add emoji.
- Select Choose image and pick a PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF image, up to 1 MB. A still image becomes 128 × 128 pixels. An animated GIF or WebP can be at most 128 × 128 pixels, 256 KB and 50 frames.
- Check the Name: lowercase letters, numbers and _. It starts as the file’s name. It can’t be a standard emoji’s name or one already in use.
- Check the Preview in a line of text, then select Add.
An org can have up to 500 emoji. Emoji: 120 of 500 at the top shows how many you have.
Who can add emoji#
Org owners and admins choose under Who can add emoji:
- Members: any member can add emoji. Guests can’t. This is the default.
- Admins only: only owners and admins can add emoji.
Guests can always use the org’s emoji, but never add them.
The list#
Custom emoji lists each emoji with its name, who added it and when, and whether it’s Animated. With more than a few, Find an emoji filters them.
Each emoji’s menu has:
- Rename (owners and admins): old messages show the new name.
- Remove (the person who added it, or an owner or admin): it leaves the picker and can’t be used again, but messages and reactions that have it still show it. Its name becomes free.
- Purge image (owners and admins): deletes the image everywhere, for everyone. Messages and reactions that used it show its name as text instead. Use it for images nobody should see. It can’t be undone.
Owners and admins also see Removed, the emoji that were removed but still show in old messages, so they can purge them.
